2012

April: NOW OPEN! The Ronald Duncan Annual Playwriting Competition, supported through a generous grant from the Ronald Duncan Literary Foundation. The winning play will be performed by Encore Theatre and will be financially underwritten to the maximum of £1,250. Performances will be in three studio theatres for two nights each.

Eligibility: The competition is open to new playwrights. For the purpose of the competition a new playwright will be someone who has had no more than one full length play professionally performed.

How To Apply: Applicants will have to meet the eligibility criteria above. They should then apply through submitting a treatment and three pages of script to the address on the information sheet. Competition Information Sheet. Before submitting an entry, participants must read our information sheet which contains competition entry rules and details, and includes an example treatment. Please visit www.encore01.com to read the information sheet outlining rules of entry.
 
Deadline: Treatments and script samplers must be received no later than Friday 25th May 2012

February: Duncan Foundation sponsors West Country segment of national poetry festival 'Winning Words' - for Cultural Olympiad 2012.

Encore Drama presents 'Jo’s War' by Lucy Bell, winner of the Ronald Duncan Playwriting Prize 2011/12.

Conference - Literary Britten, Cambridge UK. Paper: "Modernity and Archaism in Ronald Duncan’s libretto for The Rape of Lucretia" by Dr. A. Munton.

 

September 3:
1968 University alumni encouraged by Duncan to write whilst a student at Exeter. Now David Axtell has written a book 'A Bird for All Seasons' combining poetry with his love for birds. MORE
